Summary: Nowadays, the distribution system has experienced electrical problems that require different solutions from conventional ones. Power electronics devices, already consolidated when applied to transmission systems to improve its characteristics, begins to have great use also at distribution levels. The use of
power electronics devices such as the TCSC (Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor), commonly used in transmission lines, is being gradually used in medium voltage distribution systems, thus avoiding unnecessary expenses by concessionaires such as reconductoring feeder. This work presents the modeling of a TCSC, and analyzes its operation acting as fault current limiter in a 11,4 kV distribution feeder, presenting by simulation their behavior at steady state as well as during a fault condition. The modeling fault detector circuit, that controls the activation of the thyristors of the TCSC is carried out, WHERE it is proposed a ramp transition for the recovering of a state to normal operation, analyzing its performance. The block diagram for achieve recovery methodology is presents and can be implemented in any simulation software.
The results of simulations show the good performance of the proposed approach.
