Summary: The growth in electricity demand in recent decades increased the energy management technique researches importance to ensure continuity in the energy supply. One of the most studied management techniques in the literature is Peak Shaving, which uses energy storage systems to deliver power to the load at peak times, thus removing this portion of energy from the electrical system in those moments. However, there are still gaps regarding
the optimized sizing of battery bank combined with supercapacitors aiming the consumer’s economy, as well as the impacts on the distribution grid. That being said, the present work proposes a sizing technique for energy storage systems in mixed configuration (batteries and supercapacitors) applied to Peak Shaving, as well as the implementation impacts evaluation in the IEEE 34 node test feeder. Simulink - Matlab is used in the grid impact analysis to solve the power flow and generate the critical node P-V curves. It was found that the Peak Shaving implementation can increase the voltage grid static stability even in nodes that did not change the consumption profile and, depending on the profile analyzed, the association of different technologies can result in greater financial savings for the consumer.
